Free everything is over!
Written by A. Tung from Hong Kong on 9/7/2001

Next Magazine on-line's revenue model is based on subscription. Their targeted market is overseas Chinese, especially those emigrated from Hong Kong. Free information is no longer the trend. The good old days is gone when everyone thought pageview equals to money. Since the beginning of this year, Quamnet, e-finet all starts charging their viewers. Free e-mail service (Hotmail, Outblaze, etc) will follow the trend too! |

Rich content and solid subscription base

I think Next Magazine on-line is probably the best content provider left after the dot-com burst! I subscribed to its on-line content and paid HK$238 almost without hesitation. Btw I am actually from Hong Kong, my busy banking life does not allow me to read those magazine, but I always like to get updated with the current things happen around me. Finally, HK$5 per issue is really worth every penny after all! |

Taiwan operation going strong despite the loss
Written by Drake from Taiwan on 7/19/2001
|
Recent report of losses at Next Media, the listed arm of Jimmy Lai Chi-ying's publishing empire, nearly doubled in the year to March 31, largely because of the poor performance of its Internet business. The Taiwan magazine, which replicates the successful Hong Kong edition, had record-breaking sales when it was launched in the island in late May. Btw, everyone can see the free issue of Next Media (TW) on-line at Sina.

Disappinted about the poor service!
Written by Wendy Tse from Hong Kong on 12/7/2000

I am really disappointed that I sent the subscription fee but not yet get the service. I always get page not found or JAVA programming errors on the site. This is really a crapy service! I still don't know when and how many they will charge on my visa card. I probably will cancel the order very soon.

Charging for Access? No Way!
Written by Fleet from Hong Kong on 12/7/2000

Next media, please stop lying about there are huge number of subscribers!
The Next-Magazine subscription web page
DOESN'T EVEN have secure connection.
Without secure connection, members
personal info and credit card number
can be easily intercepted by a
third party. Btw, it is not real time processing and just a out-dated DUMMY system. |

Getting worst after restructuring.
Written by J. Ka Yee from Hong Kong on 12/5/2000

How come Next magazine on-line is getting worst than before? I found there are so many page not found error, Java script error, missing pictures and they want to charge that kind of quality for viewing the content now? Most of my friends told me they will never go to this site anymore. Sigh! |

Crap site and no way I am going to pay!
Written by Wofu Tong from Hong Kong on 12/4/2000

Next Media's publications are the lowest standard in Hong Kong. The site design is a crap, fonts are too small and pages are always not found (need to reload to see, strange!) and now they are starting to charge money? Oh...I think it's not far from closing down the business for them. Mind you Next magazine did start with charging its members to view the content back to 1997, but it was a total failure. Just don't get why they brought this damn idea back! It's not going to work! |

Most popular doesn't mean most profitable.
Written by Gary Stein from Hong Kong on 11/4/2000

NextMedia Web site is the 4th most popular in HK. If they can't even survive, who else can? I can definitely foresee that a lot of dotcoms will use this as excuse to further trim staff force. Some (especially those belonging to certain short-sighted local listed groups) may even shut down their sites in the near future. |

Very bad navigation design!
Written by Jennifer Louis from Hong Kong on 11/1/2000

No wonder Next Media massive cut their staffs! The new layout really discouraging visitors to continue browsing. Too many Java Script and back end Cold Fusion scripting errors. Btw, the default font is far too small to be viewable on a standard screen. I expect Next Media will soon out of business if they don’t improve these problems! |

Just a bad example!
Written by Thomas Chen from Hong Kong on 7/16/2000

NextMedia proved to public that it's $$$ Internet strategy doesn't work. Laid off more than 1/3 of it’s on-line staffs, what we monitored left over is that there is NO CONTENT LEFT. We should expect NextMedia crease to operation within 6 to 12 months. This is a classic example of no control of expenditure and a warning to all the start-up companies. |
