Yahoo!'s purchase of Kimo at tne end of last year, considered the number one Internet portal in Taiwan, reinforces the U.S. portal's growing strength in Asia. The Kimo acquisition is seen as the first step in Yahoo!'s plans to breach the Chinese mainland, where it still faces stiff local competition. Local competition or no, what many analysts find most remarkable is how rapidly Yahoo! has been able to climb to the top in many of the countries where it is now dominant. |

Warning...

This week's buy out from Yahoo is a bit sour for me. Kimo has been always improving its portal since it started. Many people talked about US portal giants come to east and just buy the "home made" portals, it's actually sad to see this. Why can't we be proud of what we have done? Is it really only money rules? No More Kimo, US Firm Ruls

Today's announcement that Yahoo Taiwan would buy Taiwan's Kimo in a share-swap deal. For Yahoo, the acquisition of Kimo is an important step in its Asian expansion. Killen pointed to Yahoo's acquisition of Geocities and Broadcast.com as examples of how Kimo might be integrated into the Yahoo family. Geocities was renamed Yahoo Geocities while Broadcast.com become Yahoo Broadcast. No more local brand, US Internet giant Yahoo rules! |

I love the various features on Kimo so much. In fact, I think it's getting more and more into an Internet content provider with search engine as an add-on service. |
