Comment Outblaze's service sucks big time. * 1/2 * o o o
Written by Larry from Hong Kong on 8/12/2000
Outblaze's service sucks big time. I had once used Outblaze's service in June 99. Their email service is EXTREMELY unstable. Not to mention that 80% of time it does not work due to server failure.
Comment Yearly profit of US$ 300,000. * * * * 1/2 *
Written by Po from Hong Kong on 8/12/2000
According to several sources, Outblaze has a current burn rate of about US$ 350,000 per month. Current revenues are US$ 4.5 mil per year. If you do the simple math, you end up with a yearly burn of 4.2 mil, and a yearly profit of US$ 300,000. This is actually a fairly good profit margin for an Internet company, considering that most of them are losing money. Of course, this calculation does not take into account the info we don't know such as future revenues and future burn rate.
Comment I love their idea on instant portal. * * * o o
Written by wolf from Hong Kong on 8/12/2000
outblaze used to have edge on doing something innovative. in fact,i love their idea on instant portal. but, it seems that their product development is not in a good progress to catch up the market and technology. i heard about outblaze will port their product onto PCCW's set top box platform, but after the news, nothing has been in a normal progress.
Comment Yat is smart. * * * * 1/2 *

Yat is smart. He was one the earliest guy who recognized the power of building internet communities. He's years ahead of other people. People out there just start learn how to build vertical portals and CRM products which will be the ultimate platform for e-business and internet marketing.
Comment Scary for Outblaze! * * * o o
Written by JC from Hong Kong on 8/12/2000
No banks are launching dotcoms right now: it's not feasible at least til after the summer....there's going to be a bloodbath amongst some dotcoms: my favourite group for casualties will be the non-listed hk-focused portals...it ain't going to work with no traffic and noone wants to know...you can't give stock away right now.

Outblaze is a first for Hong Kong, creative business model with a very cute service that I use very happily with! I didn't notice them until I saw the powered by Outblaze logo. I hope they do well!
Comment Security Holes * * o o o
Written by Jiao from United States of America on 4/17/2000
I would point out OutBlaze's instant portal isn't a fully debug product mainly because its security holes (ie, any user can enter other user's account by manipulating the URL which this bug is well known in security communities) and the speed is very slow compare to other similar services.

Comment Not a sounding business model. * * 1/2 * o o
Written by Ewin Chong from Hong Kong on 4/8/2000
Not to mention the design of the co-brand sites are subtle, inflexible and the speed is horrible. What Outblaze does is just a copycat and combination of offering Hotmail, Web organizer, I really don't see how can Outblaze make profit in the near future.
